Carl Grace High Contrast Black and Grey Review

Hi again there guys! Sorry I haven’t posted much, but I hope I did a good share on my last post about Mike Devries, If you haven’t read it yet, it’s now the time to do so..  Anyway, I’ve been a little busy with work and some tattooing I’ve done in the couple of weeks. Today I’m going to do a little bit review about the DVD tattoo tutorial of Carl Grace. Of course like in my last post, I will provide some screenshots of the DVD I have been watching.

I’m guessing this info I post is essential before you purchase the DVD, let us say that I’ll give a little summary of the DVD of Carl Grace. So let’s start.

1.       Stencil - The first part is, obviously is the Stencil. As you can see in the image below, this is how he does his stencil. He doesn’t do ‘xxx’ mark on the shaded or dark spot of the image but he actually shades all of it.  Well, every artist has a different type of technique in how they do stuff when they are tattooing. Like I said, Carl Grace uses his ball pen to shade the dark part of the image so that the stencil copy will look like the image itself.

And this is the finish work of his stencil ready to be transferred in the skin.

2.       Machine and Needles Setup - In this part, he used 4 machines and of course four type of needles.
a.       5RL – for outline
b.      11BP Mag – for small areas can’t be used for thick outlines too
c.       15BP Mag – for medium wide areas such as the hair part and chick
d.      and lastly 25Mag long tapered needle – for large areas to make it easier and faster

3.       Inks – He used Dynamic Black – Mixed his own washes for light medium and dark grey wash.

This is the part where he already transferred the stencil into the skin, He used Stencil Stuff which said to be very good and doesn’t come off easily. Unlike Nikko Hurtado, he does his own Stencil Stuff by mixing Deodorant, Green soap and Alcohol together.  You can see the end result of the tattoo work here just by putting the stencil there in the skin.

Another screenshot of the video where he already started doing the tattoo from right to left, since he is right handed. Some other tattoo artist starts from bottom to top but anyway like I said, all tattoo artist have different styles and techniques. Also I will be skipping a lot of part and I won’t obviously tell you all the details that happened in the tutorial, this is just like giving you a heads up on what’s happening in the DVD tutorial of Carl Grace.   If you liked my post and the summary of the DVD, then you can purchase it online. You can Google it. It’s named Carl Grace – High Contrast Black and Grey.

I guess this is enough; I will give you a few more screen shots of the DVD. I tell you.. You will learn a lot from this and he talks a lot about his techniques, experience, how he did that etc.

This is the finished tattoo. His very talented.. right? Do you know any tattoo artist that does Black and Grey that is better than him?
